Magical Peru

I finally started going through my photos from Peru. I think I have been putting it off because it will only remind me that I am not in that amazing country anymore. Denial is a strong force with me, apparently.

One thing that is sticking out now that I am shuffling through, is that I definitely didn’t take as many photos as I thought I did.  I attribute this to the overwhelming visual experience I had; my eyes never stopped roving over the varied textures of the streets and buildings, the beautifully carved balconies, the rich woven fabric everywhere (even the cheap stuff was amazing).

We started out in Cuzco, a lovely red tiled city that sits within a valley and flows up the hills topped with eucalyptus groves. We marched up long winding stairways through the artisan district, fueled by gallons of coca tea that magically kept us from gasping at 12,000 ft altitude. Touring studios and courtyards absolutely stuffed with handmade treasure, we were greeted by smiling faces of people happy to explain the work that went into the goods they sold.

This will be a several part post – here are some photos to highlight my first day in Cuzco.
