The works in this group exhibition curated by Kim Abeles are part of a larger series titled “Capsules”.
“Capsules” focuses on futuristic architectural buildings that are used as academic or cultural institutions. These buildings represent technical mastery and the devising of human behavior within spaces; the architects are world builders. Coupled with their civic context, I see them as capsules of humanity. Proffered in a still conceptual stage, as white paper maquettes, I seek to portray the vulnerability of idea and intent in context of chaotic circumstance. The buildings are buoyant for the moment but are threatened to become saturated and sodden.
The pieces I chose for this exhibition of women artists are two of the current leading female architects; the late Zaha Hadid, and Kazuyo Sejima.
